I was reminded by one candidate of this quote I had, one time, posted to my blog. It bears repeating.
"Above all, if you wish to be strong, begin by rooting out every particle of socialism that may have crept into your legislation. This will be no light task."
--Frederick Bastiat, 1850 The Law

Here's another quote for you Tyler: "Socialism failed because it couldn't tell the economic truth; capitalism may fail because it couldn't tell the ecological truth." This is from Lester T. Brown. Check out his books on Amazon. What the capitalists are doing to us and to the Chinese in their sweat shops is a much greater threat to humanity than any socialist notions. W and Cheney have made sure the oil industry is thriving at your and mine expense. Hope you have not bought any Thomas the Tank Engine stuff from Wal Mart lately! Your kids and my grandkids are at risk.
That's an interesting quote.
I should say that by posting this quote, I wasn't picking any fights, but was specifically asked about it earlier, so I supplied it.
What Bastiat was arguing was that if we value strength, we must rid ourselves of socialism.
Now, I suppose, if we value ecology we ought to consider the ill effects of capitalism. However, I'm not sure that strength and ecology are diametrically opposed as has been suggested.
Agreed that my kids, and your grandkids, ought not to be exposed to toxins, and risks, that can be helped.
Caveat emptor
